VITAE LAMPADA
Sir Henry Newbolt ( 1862 - 1936 )
Although the poem mentions the massacre of a platoon of soldiers in Sudan, it deals on underlying de importance of passing the testimonial of human and spiritual values to future generations. In the poem, the young soldier remembers the words of his captain which were directed at motivating his men. "Vitae Lampada" was published in 1898. It means the "brightness of life". - Arthur
